Wetland Habitat Assessment and Conservation
The Guajonales are unique freshwater wetland habitats in Coamo, Puerto Rico. These wetlands provide critical ecosystem services including water filtration, flood control, and habitat for diverse aquatic and terrestrial species. The term "guajonal" refers to the characteristic vegetation dominated by wetland plants.
This project documents and assesses these important wetland habitats, which face pressures from development and land use changes. Understanding the ecology and value of these systems is essential for their long-term conservation and management.
